Don’t miss this Off-Broadway Premiere of a New Dark Comedy!
HOUSE RULES, a new play by A. Rey Pamatmat, will be given its NY premiere by the award-winning Asian-American Off-Broadway MA-YI THEATER COMPANY at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, NYC), with previews set to begin March 25 prior to its official opening night on April 1. HOUSE RULES is directed by Ralph B. Peña. This limited-engagement will conclude on April 16, 2016.
In HOUSE RULES, an engaged gay couple with an expensive couch, a successful cartoonist who finds himself adding genitalia on his drawings of aliens, a closeted lesbian neurologist eager to learn all of her mother’s “authentic” recipes, and a dying Filipino curmudgeon obsessed with Romanian tits.
This is the volatile and hilarious cocktail of humans in HOUSE RULES, A. Rey Pamatmat’s funny and deeply moving new play about two Filipino families dealing with the impending death of parents. Meantime, there’s plenty of monopoly, mahjong, and gin rummy to keep them all busy.
Directed by Ma-Yi Theater Company‘s Producing Artistic Director Ralph B. Peña, HOUSE RULES cast features Tina Chilip (Golden Child), Jojo Gonzalez (MA-YI’s The Romance of Magno Rubio), Mia Katigbak (NAATCO’s Awake and Sing!), Jeffrey Omura (The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks), Conrad Schott (The Glory of the World, BAM), Tiffany Villarin(Peerless, Yale Repertory) and James Yaegashi (Breakfast at Tiffany’s).
This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: Co-op, HERE’s curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.
Scheduled through April 16th, HOUSE RULES will perform Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:30; Saturday and Sundays matinees are at 4PM. There is no performance on Sunday, March 27th. Tickets are $30-$35.
